There are two versions of the first concerto. The first version, BWV 1046.2, has three movements. It does not use the violino piccolo. Bach wrote the first version in Weimar. The second version, BWV 1046.1, has four movements.

Concerto No. 2 in F major, BWV 1047[change | change source]

Concertino: natural trumpet in F, recorder, oboe, violin

Ripieno: two violins, viola, violone, cello and harpsichord (as basso continuo)

The trumpet does not play in the second movement. This is because baroque trumpets could only play in major keys.
