Castillo de Canena is a Spanish company of extra virgin olive oil with a tradition dating back from 1780. Nowadays, it is considered one of the most prestigious olive oil companies in the world since it is one of the most international awarded. it is considered as the 'Vega Sicilia' of the olive oil.[1]

Right now, Castillo de Canena exports over 40 countries across the five continents.[2] [3]

Among its brands there are: Family Reserve, First Day of Harvest, Biodynamic Picual, Arbequino oak smoked and Early Royal.

The first documents that confirm the relation of olive cultivation and Vañó family, owners of Castle Canena, dates back to 1780, although it was not until 2005 when the family decided to market an extra virgin olive oil of high quality with the name of Castillo de Canena, because of the castle in the town of Canena (Jaén, Spain), owned by Vañó family as well.

Rosa Vañó, marketing manager of Castillo de Canena, left her hight position in Coca-Cola company, to devote herself exclusively to the family business, becoming in a few years one of the most admired entrepreneurs in the industry[4] She has also been considered in 2013 and 2014 one of the 100 most influential women in Spain[5]  Something similar did his brother, Francisco Vañó, who left a top post at Banco Santander to become the CEO of Castillo de Canena.[6]

Reserva Familiar: It is the flagship of the company. Early harvest, worked up in the varietal Arbequina and Picual.


First Day of Harvest: Also in the Picual and Arbequina varietal it is a limited edition of oil collected on the first day of the harvest. Each year a personality of the arts, science, society design the label ... until now have participated Fernando Alonso in 2013,[7] Ainhoa Arteta, Alejandro Sanz in 2012[8] and Pau Gasol in 2011,[9] Fashion designer Roberto Verino has been in charge of naming the 2014 harvest [10]


Biodynámic Picual: Biodynamic farming is considered a step ahead of organic farming, and is based on harmonization between the various forces of nature, such as the seasons, cycles of the moon, the position of the constellations. The basic idea is to find the balance between Nature and Man. In 2014 he won the Demeter[11].

Arbequino smoked oil: Se trata del primer y único aceite infusionado en frío con humo de roble.

Horizontal Tasting: Gastronomic experiment to observe the evolution of oil during the months of October, November and December.

Early Royal: First launched in the royal oil, varietal variety native to the province of Jaen that was on the verge of extinction and Castillo de Canena has rescued.

Castillo de Canena controls the entire process, from selection and collection of olives to bottling and Commercialization of the product, thereby ensuring full traceability and ensures the proper print quality of the extra virgin olive oil.
