Boksburg Blast

The Boksburg Blast is an explosion that occurred in Boksburg, South Africa, on the 24th of December 2022. The blast occurred when a gas tanker went under a low-lying bridge and got stuck. The gas tanker started leaking as it got compressed by the bridge at low pressure.

The gas tanker driver called emergency services to attend this for the safety of the Boksburg residents. The gas tanker caught fire by the first blast. This blast attracted people to see what was going on. The second blast attracted more people. That time, the fire department arrived to take out the gas fire.

The third blast attracted even more people as the firemen were trying to extinguish the flame. These 3 blasts were small. The fourth blast was the biggest blast. It killed 10 people, including 2 children, injured 41 people, destroyed the nearby hospital named O.R Tambo Memorial Hospital, and literally destroyed the whole railway bridge. [1]

And holy crap! Day by day, the death toll rose from 10 to 16, then to 21, then to 31, then to 36, then to 41, and then to 42. [2]Many homes were also affected by the blast. On the day of the blast, taxi drivers had to overspeed in order to prevent themselves and their passengers from being destroyed by the blazing blast.

This event is never forgettable. It is an event that has occurred in South African history. This disastrous event has even occurred on the day before Christmas 🎄.
