Elisabeth Giacobino was born 3 April 1946, she is physicist french. She did her whole career as CNRS researcher in Kastler-Brossel laboratory.

She was student superior in the «École normale supérieure de jeunes filles» and the faculty of science «Nouvelle université de Paris» in 1965;1969.She obtained in 1969 the doctor's diploma of 3rd cycle in atomic and statistical physical appearance with the thesis, «étude du niveau 2p du néon pompé optiquement par un faisceau laser».She becomes professor pleases of physical appearance in 1969,1984 «Centre national de la recherche scientifique».In 1976, she had a state doctorate in physical science «étude de niveaux excités du néon par spectroscopie laser sans effet Doppler», charged to search then she became a master of search in 1982.

She joined into the CNRS(NATIONAL CENTER FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH) as «directrice de recherche de 2eclasse en 1984, elle devient directrice de recherches de 1reclasse en 1995».From 1995 till 1999, she is assistant scientific director of the department physical and mathematical sciences of the CNRS, then from 1999 till 2001 director of the Laboratory Kastler Brossel.From 2001 till 2002, she is a director of the department of the physical and mathematical sciences of the CNRS then from 2002 till 2005 director of the search to the ministry.

In 2006, she is elected a president of the Institute of optics theoretical and applied and named a project leader for the interdisciplinarity to the CNRS.Her research works concern mainly the physics of lasers, non-linear optics and quantum optics.She received the Fabry-de Gramont price in 1990, the Félix price in 2010 and the Humboldt price in 2012.

Curently, she is a member of a german academy of science. It calls Leopoldina.
