Must-read[change | change source]

Writing guideline[change | change source]

Lead[change | change source]

  • Title as unlinked, bolded subject of first sentence (e.g., "In geometry, an angle is an opening... ")

Headings[change | change source]

  • Avoid special symbols and links
  • Ideally 10- words
  • Leave a comment if linked to the section
  • Changing heading requires fixing the backlinks

Paragraphs[change | change source]

  • Simplify words whenever possible
  • No contraction (e.g., don't, can't)
  • No inline latin abbreviation (e.g., i.e., n.b.)
  • No "you" or "I"
  • Use "we" to refer to everyone only ("To solve this equation, we need to find the value of A.")
  • No unnecessarily complex sentences
  • Avoid slash (/) in general (and/or)
  • Avoid question mark (?) and exclamation mark(!) in general
  • For emphasis, use italic only (not capitalization)
  • Italic when referring to single terms (deuce means "two")
  • Avoid relative time expressions (e.g., recently, to date)
  • Avoid adjective relative to subjective experience (e.g., big, small, tiny)

Dashes[change | change source]

  • En-dash (–) for ranges (e.g. A–Z, 1999–2003)
  • No space around em-dash (—)

Lists[change | change source]

  • Capitalize each entry (even for sentence fragments)
  • Sentences end with period. Fragments do not (and should not)\

Links[change | change source]

  • Only wikilink if contribute to better understanding of the article
  • Mostly nouns (i.e., not verb or adjective)
  • Wikilink first occurrence of the word only
