History[change | change source]

There has been three different personas of Batgirl but there is only one persona of Batwoman. The first Batgirl was Barbara Gordon, her father was Jim Gordon. After an encounter with the Joker she got shot and was paralyzed and later becomes Oracle. Later on, another Batgirl appeared, Cassandra Cain. Her parents are Lady Shiva and David Cain. Cassandra was trained to be an assassin and she is the best in the world. But now she goes by Black Bat. The last persona is Stephanie Brown and she is the daughter of a criminal. At first, she didn't go by the name of Batgirl instead it was The Spoiler. As her life went on Batman took her in and trained her and when Robin retired she became Robin and then later became Batgirl. The only persona of Batwoman is Katherine "Kate" Kane but she goes by Kate Kane. She took Batman's place after he mysteriously vanished. At first she didn't know that Bruce Wayne was Batman. She discovered his secret after seeking the help from her cousin after her ex, Sofie Moore, was abducted by Alice, also known as Beth Kane, and her Wonderland gang. She decided to overcome her demons and later becomes Batwoman so she can regain the hope of the citizens of Gotham City. [1]

Differences between Batgirl and Batwoman[change | change source]

Batwoman debuted first but she never really had her own story and her only purpose was to be Batman's love interest. She was slowly becoming unpopular. She rarely appears in the 70s and the 80s to either fight beside Batgirl or moon over Batman but overall she was effectively retired. Years after, Batgirl was introduced. The publishers decided to go with girl instead of woman so they can distinguish the differences between Batgirl and Batwoman. She has own comics within the Batman comics but she only has one of her own comic. In the 1988 comic,"The Killer Joke" came out and that comic is about how Batgirl got paralyzed and became the Oracle. [2]

Batwoman is a TV show on the CW channel. This show takes place three years after the disappearance of batman, also known as Bruce Wayne. One day, Joker hijacked a bus and ran into a car and before it fell of a bridge batman came and sorta stopped the car from falling. Before the ca fell only one person was able to get out and that little girl was Kate Kane, Bruce's cousin. She lost her mom and she thought she lost her sister. After that car accident, Batman mysteriously disappeared and nobody knew why. Gotham City lost their hope after he vanished. Jacob Kane, Kate's father, regained their hope by protecting the city with his military-guard Crows Privet Security. While Jacob and the Crows were guarding a gala, the citizens of Gotham City were attacked by a new villain, Alice, and her Wonderland gang. The gang only attacked so they can kidnap one of the Crows, Sophie Moore, Kate's ex. After discovering that her ex was abducted Kate returned from overseas to help her father find Sophia. She decided to look for her cousin for help and later she finds out that he was Batman. All her life she blamed Batman for the death of her mother and twin sister. After realizing there is more to the story, Kate decided to take Bruce's place with the help of Luke Fox, the son of Lucius Fox who helped Batman. After her confrontation with Alice, she starts to suspect that is her sister. As her curiosity gets bigger, she dug a wedge between her and her father. She wanted to know for sure that was her sister because they never found a body and she never stopped searching for her. Jacob believed that she was dead because of the evidence but Kate never gave up. Kate soon discovers that Alice wants revenge on Jacob because he stopped looking for her. But she never hurt Kate because deep down she loved her twin but even though she didn't show it. As she was investigating, she uncovered some dark secrets and because of that she lost someone that she loved. After she lost someone, she wanted to make her sister pay by any means necessary. Alice said that her sister was long gone and she was right. She tried everything that she could to help her sister, but how can you help someone that doesn't want any help?[3]
