Hello, Bseuk, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

Good luck and happy editing!

Template:Profile India , and others[change source]

I'm not convinced of the usefulness of having Template:Profile India and the others you've been making. The idea of a template is so that it is reused in multiple articles. The boxes, while informative, are also quite unsimple.

Can you give me your thoughts on this? -- Netoholic @ 17:39, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I chose the template method because it makes the original article less messy for users to edit. -- Bseuk 17:48, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)
What is so difficult about the words used in the tables? I used "National song" instead of "National anthem" for example. The only way you and I can know if it's too difficult is to ask non-native speakers to give us feedback to let us know if it really is too difficult or not. And to give suggestions if that is the case. -- Bseuk 17:56, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Take a look at Wikipedia:How to write Simple English articles for some lists of words that are considered simple. -- Netoholic @ 18:47, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I've put your template format into a generic on that can be used for each country. Take a look at Japan. This uses variable parameters to fill into the template, which is at Template:Infobox Country. Some items (like the name of the country in the native tongue) were removed for consistency, but can just be placed into the article itself. Let me know what you think. -- Netoholic @ 18:47, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)

That's very interesting! First time I ever saw such a method. I like some of the changes you made, others not as much. I'll try editing with that for a bit -- Bseuk 19:13, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)

(some items cross-posted) I was wondering over 2 issues concerning the Template:Infobox_Country

  1. Why the width of the table is not 350px when used in a country's article page.
  2. Do you consider GDP unnecessary?

BTW, great job on that Infobox idea. -- Bseuk 19:43, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Thanks, here are some responses:
  1. 300px is a bit better when the page is printed out or viewed on a small screen.
  2. GDP is a bit complex an idea. We should try and avoid acronyms whenever possible, and stick to the word lists. I didn't know how a good way to handle it was, so I took it out. Not opposed to it, just maybe too much information for an infobox. Basically, if it's too complex for the article, it should be in the infobox. Non-English speakers can get that information from their native Wikipedia.
Nice improvements to the template so far, and thanks for fixing my poor spelling. :) -- Netoholic @ 20:52, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)
