Vining is a city in Clay and Washington counties in Kansas, United States. In 2010 census, 45 people lived there.[6]

Vining was first called West Clifton. It was planned out as West Clifton in 1877. It was renamed Vining in 1881, in honor of E. P. Vining, a railroad worker.[7]

Vining was once an important shipping point. This was because it was on the Republican River and at the junction of two railroads.[8]

The post office in Vining closed in 1955.[9]

Vining is at 39°34′3″N 97°17′35″W / 39.56750°N 97.29306°W / 39.56750; -97.29306 (39.567460, -97.293109).[10] The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.22 square miles (0.57 km2). All of it is land.[1] The city is located next to Clifton.

The 2010 census says that there were 45 people, 24 households, and 13 families living in Vining.[2]
