Walter R. Mears (January 11, 1935 – March 3, 2022) was an American journalist, author, and teacher. He was one of the people talked about in the 1973 non-fiction book The Boys on the Bus. He helped cover the 1972 presidential election between Richard Nixon and George McGovern.[1] He won the 1977 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for his coverage of the 1976 Presidential campaign and election.[2]

Mears died on March 3, 2022 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina from cancer, aged 87.[3]
