Wo soll ich fliehen hin, BWV 5 is a chorale cantata written by Johann Sebastian Bach. The title means "Where shall I flee" in English.[1] It is based on the hymn Wo soll ich fliehen hin by Johann Heermann. It was written for the 19th Sunday after Trinity. It was first performed on 15 October 1724.

The cantata has seven movements. It is written for SATB choir and soloists, two oboes, a trumpet, solo viola, and a string ensemble.[2]

  1. Chorale: Wo soll ich fliehen hin
  2. Recitative: Der Sünden Wust hat mich nicht nur befleckt
  3. Aria: Ergieße dich reichlich, du göttliche Quelle
  4. Recitative: Mein treuer Heiland tröstet mich
  5. Aria: Verstumme, Höllenheer
  6. Recitative: Ich bin ja nur das kleinste Teil der Welt
  7. Choral: Führ auch mein Herz und Sinn

The cantata's first movement is a chorale fantasia. The orchesra's theme is based on the hymn tune's first few notes. The hymn tune is sung by the soprano part.[2]: 579 

The first aria is played by a solo viola and tenor soloist. Bach does not use the solo viola in his cantatas often.[3] The aria's text is a paraphrase (rewriting of a text, keeping its meaning) of the hymn's fourth verse.[2]: 578
