The Beltway Sniper attacks were a series of sniper attacks on innocent civilians over three weeks in October 2002. The shootings all took place in the Maryland and Virginia area, mainly in and around Washington DC. The shootings were carried out by John Allen Muhammad (1960-2009) and Lee Boyd Malvo (born 1985).
