Blue Velvet is a 1986 mystery movie by David Lynch. The cast include Dennis Hopper, Laura Dern and Kyle MacLachlan. The title is from the 1963 Bobby Vinton song of the same name. This movie was originally detested by certain movie critics, although it is now widely acclaimed. It was controversial at the time of its 1986 release, and has since become a cult favorite. Lynch got his second Academy Award nomination for Best Director for the movie.
