Hirosaki (弘前市, Hirosaki-shi) is a Japanese city in Aomori Prefecture on the island of Honshu.[1]

Hirosaki was a castle town (城下町) of the Tsugaru clan.[2] The town grew up around Hirosaki Castle, which was built in 1601.[1]

City emblem[change | change source]

Hirosaki uses the swastika (manji ) as official symbol. This came from the flag emblem of the Tsugaru clan in Edo period.[source?]

Geography[change | change source]

Hirosaki is located in the southwest part of Aomori Prefecture. It is in the south of Mount Iwaki; and it is along the border with Akita Prefecture.
