James Emerson Smith Jr. (born September 9, 1967) is an American politician and businessman. He is a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives. Smith is also a combat veteran. He was first elected to the South Carolina House representing the 72nd district in 1996.
Smith endorsed Joe Biden in the 2008 United States presidential election. He was the Democratic nominee for Governor of South Carolina in 2018, but lost to incumbent Henry McMaster.[1]
