Madalyn Murray O'Hair (April 13, 1919 – September 29, 1995)[1] was an American atheist activist. She was the founder of the American Atheists and its president from 1963 to 1986. She created the first issues of American Atheist Magazine. Many people criticized her and called her "the most hated woman in America".[2]

In 1995 she was kidnapped, murdered and dismembered along with her son Jon Murray and granddaughter Robin Murray O'Hair, by the former American Atheist office manager David Roland Waters.[3]
