The municipalities of Sweden (Swedish: Sveriges kommuner) are the local government units of Sweden. The are 290 municipalities in Sweden. The municipalities are responsible for many social issues, like schools, Kindergartens and the care for older and disabled people.

Since 1971, all of Sweden is divided into the same kind of local government units, municipalities. The old town concept was abolished, even if the word town is still in use in everyday language.
