"PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen)" (Japanese: ペンパイナッポーアッポーペン, Hepburn: Penpainappōappōpen) is a single by Pikotaro. He is a fictional singer-songwriter created Japanese comedian Daimaou Kosaka.[1][2] The song was released as a music video on YouTube on 25 August 2016. It has become a viral video. As of February 2022[update], the video has been viewed more than 147 million times.[3] A version of the video released by Ultra Music has overe 2.3 million views[4] Many parodies of the song have been created. It was hailed as the new "Gangnam Style" by newspapers and online media.[5][6] The single was ranked number 1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart. It was the shortest single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, until Beautiful Trip.[7] At the end of 2016, the song charted at number 6 on Japan Hot 100 Year-end Chart.
