Peter Dougan Capaldi (born 14 April 1958) is a Scottish actor, director and writer. He portrayed the 12th Doctor in Doctor Who. He won an Academy Award for best Live Action Short Film for writing and directing the movie Franz Kafka's It's a Wonderful Life in 1995. He has been in various movies and television programs in the United Kingdom, including In the Loop, The Fifth Estate, The Thick of It and The Musketeers.

He also portrayed one of the professors in World War Z. He starred as Rabbit in the 2018 Disney movie Christopher Robin.

Capaldi was born on 14 April 1958 in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of Nancy Soutar and Gerald John Capaldi. His mother's side of the family was Scottish and Irish. His father's side was Italian.[1][2]
