J. Riccardo Benavides (born 1955) is a Mexican-American high-profile event designer and planner based in San Francisco, Bay Area who works nationally and globally.

Early life and education

Benavides was born in Northern California in 1955. He studied Interior design at the Rudolph Schaeffer School of Design in San Francisco.[5]

Career

Benavides is a high-profile event designer and planner[6][7] and founder of the Bay Area-based event management company, Ideas Events & Rentals, where he serves as the creative director.[8][9][10] Benavides started his company, Ideas Event Styling in 1992 after his long service with the Hyatt Corporation.[1] In the Bay Area, he is most known for his many years designing Opening Night Galas for San Francisco Ballet, San Francisco Opera[17][18], The Fine Arts Museum Oscar de la Renta Retrospective,[15] San Francisco Edgewood, The League to Save Lake Tahoe summer kickoff event in collaboration with Saks Fifth Avenue and Oscar de la Renta, The Fall Antique Show, The San Francisco Conservatory of Music Gala, as well as numerous other fundraisers for organizations and high-profile events for private clients. He has partnered with Neiman Marcus Corporation on their events and is the preferred vendor for St. Regis Hotels, where he opened one of their hotels in Victoria, Canada. As of 2023, Benavides has been appointed by the Mayor of San Francisco as an active Commissioner to the San Francisco Arts Commission. He is an active board member for Nob Hill Association and was previously a board member for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) in Marin County for 15 years and a board member for CASA California for 5 years.
