Please try to avoid terms which are local or rare versions of common words. People from another culture may not be able to understand them. A platform is something one stands on. I understand that but in this case the term is used by the Miss American Contest. It isn't rare because it is used commonly in news articles about the Miss America pageant. In fact, it appeared in each of the sources I cited. So explaining how they use the term was the reason for the addition. The statement: Since 1989, each contestant has to choose an issue she cares deeply about as her "platform", explains how the word is used. But it isn't called her issue, it's called her platform.
