Strategy[change source]
I don't know whether this belongs in the article?
- Women's Soccer United.com, "Nadeshiko Japan coach Sasaki Norio thanked his players for following his instructions in the draw with South Africa," August 1, 2012; "Olympics: Nadeshiko rally round under-fire soccer coach Sasaki" at House of Japan; retrieved 2012-8-17.
- Odeven, Ed. "Sasaki's unsavory tactics bring shame on Nadeshiko," Japan Times, August 4, 2012; retrieved 2012-8-24
This was a controversial strategic coaching decision.
- On one hand, it is a practical example of thinking outside the box which helped his team to do their best. In the tournament context, the coach urged his team to achieve a draw -- not to win a game.
- On the other hand, it is confusing in the context created by a scandal involving badminton players who were expelled from the games for not trying their best. In the tournament context, the players tried to lose a game -- compare Ken Belson, "Olympic Ideal Takes Beating in Badminton," New York Times. August 1, 2012; retrieved 2012-8-17
Perhaps time will help put the issues in perspective? --Horeki (talk) 19:46, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
