"The Story of Us" is a song written and recorded by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. The song was produced by Nathan Chapman and Swift. It is about breakups and troubles between two people. The story in the song was inspired by an encounter with an ex-boyfriend during the CMT Music Awards in which Swift and the ex attempted to ignore one another. "The Story of Us" received mixed reviews, peaking at #41 on Billboard Hot 100, although the video got positive review for its "departure from the music video high school". The song was on Swift's album Speak Now, released in 2010.
