The Kodiak bear (Ursus arctos middendorffi), also called the Kodiak brown bear or the Alaskan brown bear is a suspecies of brown bear. It lives on the islands of the Kodiak Archipelago in southwest Alaska.[2] It is the largest recognized subspecies of brown bear. It is one of the two largest bears alive today. The other largest bear is the polar bear.[3]
