Permissions

There are many kinds of special permissions that users can be granted. These include:

  • Rollbacker is a user who can quickly revert changes by other users. See Wikipedia:Rollback feature.
  • Flood is a very short-term permission that a user can get from any administrator to make lots of small edits in a row. When using the flood permission, a user’s edits will be hidden by default from Special:RecentChanges.
  • Patroller is a user who can review new pages that other users make by marking them "patrolled". Any pages a patroller makes do not have to be reviewed by others.
  • Administrator (also called an "admin" or "sysop") is a user who can delete and protect pages and block users. Admins can also grant the rollback, flood and patroller permissions.
  • Bureaucrat (also called a "crat") is a user who can grant and revoke the admin and bot permissions.
  • Checkuser is a user who can see private information about editors (for example, their IP addresses).
  • Oversight is a user who can hide private information from everyone except other oversighters and stewards.
  • Transwiki importer is a user who has use of the import tool to move pages here from other projects. This is not to be confused with importer, who can upload XML files using the import tool. *Importer is not granted on this wiki.
  • Uploader is a user who can upload files locally on this wiki. This permission is granted temporarily and will be removed once the task is complete.
  • IPExempt is a right given to trusted named users who may edit from an IP address that would otherwise be blocked through no fault of their own. It can also be used to allow editing via an anonymizing proxy when need is demonstrated and the user is trusted to not abuse the user right. Editors granted IP address block exemption should be aware that breach of this policy, including unauthorized editing via proxies, or significant concerns over account abuse or other conduct, may lead to the removal of the IP address block exemption. Duration is at the administrators decision. If you still need it when it expires you can re-request it by posting on the administrators notice board, or emailing the administrators email list simple-admins-l@lists.wikimedia.org. Also use this email if you have any private information to share. To request this permission email simple-admins-l@lists.wikimedia.org.

Adding a new request

Rollbacker

You must be an active member of Simple English Wikipedia, preferably with some experience in reverting vandalism.

Rollback must never be used to revert in edit wars, or to remove good-faith changes. Use the undo feature for this, and give a reason. Rollback does not let you give a reason when reverting. It must only be used to revert bad changes. It can and will be revoked if misused.

Flood

Requests for the temporary (short-term) flood permission should be made on an administrator’s talk page, on the #wikipedia-simple connect IRC channel, or at the Administrators' noticeboard.

Uploader

Requests for temporary (short-term) file upload permissions should be made on the Administrators' noticeboard. An administrator should be notified once the uploads are done so that the permission can be removed.
Image uploads are not allowed, this should only be requested for uploading other media (such as audio clips)

Administrator

Please read the criteria for adminship before nominating another user or yourself, to make sure the nominated user meets the criteria for becoming an administrator. You may want to look at the archives first so you can see why other people’s requests have succeeded or failed.

Administrator tools are there to better help the community. They do not make certain users better than others. To nominate a candidate for adminship, please follow these instructions:

  1. In the input box below, replace USERNAME with the username of the person you are nominating for adminship.
  2. Complete the fields given to you.
  3. Once the user has accepted, add {{Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/<insert name of person nominated>}} underneath the Current requests for adminship heading below, at the very top of the list.
  4. Optional: Add {{rfa-notice}} to the candidate's userpage.

Notes: This is not the place to get "constructive feedback from others", if you want feedback from others in a less formal environment, please see Simple Talk. If a candidate is successful, an administrator or bureaucrat should add them to MediaWiki:Gadget-HighlightAdmins.js.

Bureaucrat, Checkuser, or Oversight

For the bureaucrat, checkuser, or oversight permission, a user first needs to be an administrator. There are special requirements at Wikipedia:Criteria for adminship for these users.

Current requests for rollback

User:DIVINE

Hello there, I would like to request rollback permission because I believe it will help save my little extra time with the tool while fighting against vandalism. I am well aware of rollback tools and their use, as I have previously served as a rollback on enwiki for a few years. I hope you will consider this request. DIVINE 00:01, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(Non-administrator observation): This user has been absent from this wiki for two years. Upon coming back to SEWP, the editor immediately took me to WP:RFCU (See Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser#PotsdamLamb) for absolutely no reason or even researching anything. They also have a slew of issues on ENWP, involving legal threats (for which they were blocked on April 6, 2024 ENWP block log and calling admins an "Ass" (w:User_talk:Primefac/Archive_40#Hi) and saying it is acceptable "Btw, someone calling you ass is not harassment in Wikipedia I reckon via AN." They also had a lot of other issues with "demanding things" as recently as before their block and numerous times asked to have their rights taken away and then re-added and was even told it would be the last time and they would need to request them again via a RfP on ENWP. While the editor may have had rollback on another wiki, they need to understand more of how we work, which includes following simple instructions such as placing new requests at the top of an RFCU page (See which was not done here). I also recommend they spend more time doing something on our wiki than automated edits, which show up as most of their edits. I encourage admins to look at this editor's behavior carefully before granting additional rights on this wiki. --Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 02:01, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, I didn't call Primefac an ass. That was a different scenario when we were talking on the talk page, and I was asking them a question related to my ANI discussions, where one admin called me that. I requested my rights to be revoked and asked again after thinking, and I re-requested after a few weeks to have them revoked again according to Wikipedia policy, which is not known as demanding.

Secondly, your CU request was valid, and anyone can request CU. You were about to commit 3RR violations while removing that notice from the CU page.

Thirdly, legal threats issues arose from doxing and have already been resolved. I am following WP:STANDARD offer and haven't violated WP:SOCK policy. Plus, I was an editor here before I got blocked due to that issue.

In addition to the CU request placement, you could have pointed it out to me on my talk page or fixed it instead of complaining.

Fighting against vandalism or patrolling new pages always involves automated edits while putting warning templates on users' talk pages with the help of Twinkle.

Lastly, about contributing, I have created more than 61 pages and 14 pages recently without copying anything, but writing by myself. My motto is to create at least one page per day here on SWEP while being free.

Also, I don't understand why you bring enwiki issues here, while this is a completely different WikiProject, and I haven't done anything wrong here while volunteering with a positive attitude and positive manners. DIVINE 04:14, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is not the place to dispute anything. I am allowed to bring up my opinion to any admin to consider. It is brought up here due to our One-strike policy. What you do on other projects is carried over to any other of the 850 or so projects under WMF. That is all I am going to say, as again, this is not a place to dispute anything. Also I do not know what you are referring to as you are following their standard offer and such, as you are indef blocked on ENWP as of April 3, 2024. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 04:22, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done please wait a couple of months and ask again and I'm sure it'll be fine then. I've changed my mind, a personal tiff is not a good reason to deny plus good reports to RFCU lately are helpful fr33kman 16:07, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User:LOLHWAT

Hello! I would like to be granted the rollback permission as I have good activity, no vandalism, and have improved articles. I have also participated in helpful discussion. Thanks! LOLHWAT (talk) 15:48, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Thank you for volunteering, but you have too few edits on the mainspace and not enough track record of anti-vandalism activity. As of this reply, you have made 34 mainspace edits and made 5 undos, 2 of them with Twinkle. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 22:35, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for patroller

User:DIVINE

I have been creating articles here on a daily basis. I believe granting this right would help with the workload for other patrollers. While most of the pages I have created are in simplified English and of good quality, some may not meet the same standard but I am actively working to improve them regularly and in the future.

Additionally, I am active on recent changes and Special:NewPages fighting vandalism and patrolling new pages. I believe I can contribute effectively to patrolling. I previously held NPR rights on Enwiki and have experience there, but I understand that SEWP operates differently combining both NPR and Autopatrol rights. I am well aware of these differences and believe I have met all the criteria. --DIVINE 08:50, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am an experienced admin, checkuser, former OSer and steward. I'd like to request oversightership to help out and to be able to act on problems rather than having to ask for help from an OSer or a steward. Candidate's acceptance: I accept this nomination. -- fr33kman 16:46, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

Support

  1. Support Experienced editor and active CU. Our community can rely on them in times of need. DIVINE 17:27, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose

  1. Oppose I'd like to assume as much good faith as possible, but oversighted diffs were posted to RfCU by you back in December 2023. I don't know why they were oversighted and the answers to the concern at the time were that it was basically a bad choice of wording (link). Having admins who post oversightable material then become oversighters isn't the best of looks for our wiki though, regardless of reasoning. Additionally, I don't see much of a need for oversighters at the moment and it was only in November you got CU again. Those three factors combined tip me into the oppose section, I'm afraid. --Ferien (talk) 20:20, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
