Yersinia is a bacterium in the large family of bacteria, Enterobacteriaceae. Yersinia pestis is the type genus. Yersinia pestis is also the cause of plague, one of the most dreaded diseases of the 18th century. Yersinia enterocolitica causes the disease Yersiniosis.[1]
