American Beauty is a 1999 American drama movie directed by Sam Mendes and written by Alan Ball. It centres on a dysfunctional middle-class suburban family and their neighbors. It also follows the man's midlife crisis and his infatuation with his daughter's friend. The movie starred Kevin Spacey, Annette Bening, Thora Birch and Mena Suvari. It won five Academy Awards.
