American Beauty is a 1999 American comedy-drama movie that won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It was directed by Sam Mendes and written by Alan Ball. It starred Kevin Spacey, Annette Bening, Thora Birch and Mena Suvari. The movie centres on a dysfunctional middle-class suburban family and their neighbors. It centers on the father's midlife crisis and his infatuation with his daughter's friend.
