Dirāsāt fī al-Yahūdīyah wa-al-Masīḥīyah wa-adyān al-Hind (Arabic: دراسات في اليهودية والمسيحية وأديان الهند, Studies in Jewish, Christian and Indian Religions) is a research book by Ziaur Rahman Azmi[1] on comparative religion,[2] published in 2001 by Al-Rushd Library, Riyadh.[3]

It has since had seven editions published.[4]

History[change | change source]

The book is a collection of the author's articles, which were published in Madinah Islamic University's "Majalat Al Jamiat Al-Islamiyya Bil Madinah Al Munawara (Madinah Islamic University Magazine)".[5] and then when he was appointed as a professor at the University of Madinah, he was also responsible for teaching "Adiyan al-Alam (World Religions)". Among other things, when entrusted with this responsibility, he prepared the text of "Religion" from the articles and then rearranged these articles for public use and published them in book form.[5][6] Now these two books deal with "religion", namely "Judaism and Christianity" (دراست في اليهودية و أديان النصرانية) and "The Religion of India", published in one volume titled Dirasat Fil Yahudiyat wal Masihiyat wal Adianil Hind (دراسات في اليهودية والمسيحية وأديان الهند, Studies in Jewish, Christian and Indian Religions/Comparative Study of Judaism, Christianity and Indian Religions[3]), containing 784 pages,[5] it is being published by Maktabat Al-Rushd, a famous printing house in Saudi Arabia, due to the similarity of the content[5] and so far it has had seven editions.[7] The institution publishes this book every year as it is very popular among the teachers and students of the local Islamic Universities.[3][8][5]

Summary[change | change source]

The book has two divisions:

Studies in Judaism and Christianity[change | change source]

First Edition: Maktab Al-Dar, Al-Madinah Al-Manura, 1988.[9] In this book, Azmi discusses the beginnings and evolution of Judaism and Christianity.[10][11] Azmi argues that the religions in their current form are distorted and "have nothing to do with" the religion that was revealed to Moses and Jesus.[12][13] Azmi compares arguments by Jewish and Christian scholars and the messages related to Muhammad.[14][15][16]

Chapters in the Religions of India[change | change source]

First edition: Dar Al-Bukhari, Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah 1997. In this book, Azmi describes the four major religions of India: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism, including their commonalities and foundations.[17] The book compiles articles that were published in Magazine Al Jamiat al-Islamiyyah in Medina, and then when Dr. Sahib was appointed as a professor at Jamia Islamia, he was also responsible for teaching "Adian al-Alam" in addition to other subjects.
