Eastern Province, Rwanda

Eastern Province (Kinyarwanda: Intara y'Iburasirazuba; French: Province de l'Est; Dutch: Oostelijke Provincie) is the largest, the most populous and the least densely populated of Rwanda's five provinces. As of the 2022 census, 3,563,145 people lived there. It has an area of 9,458 km². The capital city is Rwamagana.
It was created on 1 January 2006 from the former provinces of Kibungo and Umutara, along with large part of Kigali Rural and part of Byumba. It has seven districts of Bugesera, Gatsibo, Kayonza, Kirehe, Ngoma, Nyagatare, and Rwamagana.
