Gulbarga district
Gulbarga district (Urdu: ضلع گلبرگہ), also known as Kalaburagi, [1] is a district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is located in the northern part of the state. [2]
The city of Gulbarga is the district headquarters. This means it is the main city where the district's government is located.
Gulbarga was part of the Hyderabad State before it became part of Karnataka in 1956 during the States Reorganisation. The area has a mix of Kannada and Urdu-speaking people. Kannada is the main language used in schools and government.
The district is known for its history, old monuments and Islamic architecture. The Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah is a famous Sufi shrine located in Gulbarga city. People from different religions visit the shrine every year.
Gulbarga also has an old fort called Gulbarga Fort, which has large walls and a mosque inside it. The Jama Masjid inside the fort was built in a Persian style and looks different from most other mosques in India.[3]
The economy of Gulbarga depends on agriculture. The main crops grown are pulses, millets and cotton. Some parts of the district have dry weather, so farming can be difficult without irrigation.
Gulbarga has railway and road connections to other parts of Karnataka and nearby states. It also has a university called Gulbarga University, which provides higher education in the region.
