Hampton Roads

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hampton Roads is the name of both a body of water and a metropolitan area in Southeastern Virginia, United States. It is made up of the Virginia Beach-Chesapeake-Norfolk, VA metropolitan area. Hampton Roads is known for its military bases, its ice-free harbor, shipyards, and coal piers. It also has miles of waterfront property and beaches.

The body of water known as Hampton Roads is one of the world's largest natural harbors. In fact it is a roadstead or "roads" (a body of water outside a harbor where ships can wait). It is formed by the mouths of several rivers. The water of Hampton Roads empties into the Chesapeake Bay[1]
