Hela (character)
Hela is the Asgardian goddess of death in the Marvel Comics universe and an enemy of Thor. She was created by the late Stan Lee and the late Jack Kirby, and first appeared in Journey into Mystery #102 in March 1964.
Fictional character biography
[change | change source]She is the daughter of the Asgardian god of mischief Loki and a Frost Giantess with magical powers named Angerboda, and was set by Odin at her birth to rule Hel and Niffleheim, the Asgardian afterlife regions.
She serves as the main antagonist of the Avengers Prime Mini-series, the seven issue series Angela: Queen of Hel, and as one of the main antagonists in the 2019 Guardians of the Galaxy.
She is based on the ancient Norse goddess of the same name.
