Their music is inspired by [[rock and roll]], [[Tejano music|Tex-Mex]], [[country music|country]], [[zydeco]], [[folk music|folk]], [[R&B]], [[blues]], [[brown-eyed soul]], and traditional music such as [[cumbia]], [[bolero]]s and [[norteño (music)|norteño]]s. 

They began well known in 1987, when their version of [[Ritchie Valens]]' "[[La Bamba (song)|La Bamba]]" topped the charts in the U.S., the UK, and other countries.
