Maryon Pittman Allen (November 30, 1925 – July 23, 2018) was an American journalist. She served as United States Senator from Alabama for five months in 1978, after her husband, Senator James B. Allen, died in office.[1]

Allen died on July 23, 2018 in Birmingham, Alabama at the age of 92.[2]

Early life

Maryon Pittman was born in Meridian, Mississippi, in 1925. Her family moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where her father opened a tractor dealership. She went to public school there. From 1944 to 1947, she studied journalism at the University of Alabama but did not finish. In 1946, she married Joshua Mullins, and they had three children. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1959 when the children were still young.[3]
