Overcooked is a cooking simulation video game. It was published by Team17 and was developed by Ghost Town Games.[1]

It was released on 2 August 2016 for the PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One. It would also be released on 27 July 2017 for the Nintendo Switch, 10 November 2020 for Xbox Series X/S, 12 November and 19 for the PlayStation 5, and 5 May 2022 for Google Stadia.[2][3][4][5][6]

In the game, the player plays as a chef and works alongside other chefs to cook and serve different meals for customers and clean dishes under a certain amount of time. By successfully serving meals, players gets a rank score which is improved by collecting coins during meal service.

A sequel titled Overcooked 2 was released on August 7, 2018.

Reception[change | change source]

The game recieved good reviews by game critics. Critics said that the game was fun and that they liked the variations of the levels, design of the characters and art style of the game. However, some critics said that they didn't like that there was no online multiplayer option and the single player mode was not as balanced as the co-op mode. The Switch version also had frame rate issues.[7][8][9]

Overcooked would be nominated for Best Multiplayer Game at The Game Awards in 2016 but lost to Overwatch.[10] Overcooked would win in the British Game and Family categories at the 13th British Academy Games Awards.[11]
