Promotion means spreading information about an product, service or issue.

Promotional activity generally involves a company spreading knowledge about its brand, products, or service to generate demand, build a following, raise awareness, or build loyalty. Many of these activities taking place simultaneously, and including channels such as: Social Media, Direct Mail, Print, and Television.

Promotion as part of marketing means spreading information about a product, product line, brand, or company. Promotion includes:

  • Publicity and public relations
  • Advertising

Promotion for marketing includes additionally:

  • Personal selling
  • Non-personal selling
  • Sales promotion
  • Tradeshows
  • Direct selling
  • Refer a friend
  • Loyalty bonus
  • Product placement

Promotion can also happen when a marketing company is providing discounts and coupons to customers to create brand awareness.
