What animal protein?[change source]

"But some herbivorous animals will eat eggs and occasionally other animal protein." What do we mean here? If they don't eat meat, what kind of animal protein do they eat?

Energy Pyramid[change source]

I wrote something about why there are more herbivorous animals than carnivorous animals. I'd like to say something about the "energy pyramid" or "food chain", but I don't know how to say this in a Simple way. Can anyone else write about this?

Herbivore is a misnomer[change source]

To answer the above question: They catch and eat other animals. While it is not very common knowledge, a LOT of so called "herbivores" eat meat. And by meat- I mean cows that eat baby chicks, deer will eat birds, small animals and other deer, rhinos that eat geese, duiker's eat most small animals, and horses- well, horses apparently will eat anything from birds and roast beef to people. Wiki, you want to be accurate? Catch up on the truth about "herbivores" and change the description to an animal that eats "primarily" plant matter- and fix some these (and, for that matter, a lot of carnivores) animals' pages. I'd do it myself, but I'm not good at editing.

Thank you very much for this interesting comment, and the links in particular. It had always worried me about grass-eaters where they got the less common diet elements from. However, the page doesn't say that herbivores only eat vegetable material, so I don't think any radical change is needed. Macdonald-ross (talk) 22:49, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Herbivore label is added as the animal's primary diet or what they eat to survive. Even cats & dogs eat grass sometimes but it's not considered their diet.--NadirAli (talk) 07:10, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

List of animals section - deleting[change source]

I am removing the section titled WORLD LIST OF ANIMALS (once called "Some examples of herbivores"). There are already several examples of herbivores mentioned in the third sentences of this page. A complete list of all the herbivores in the world would be at least hundreds or thousands of items long. Currently, the list includes even animals which are not herbivores, like praying mantises and the poorly formatted "spiders venus fly trap eagles owls many species of beetle sharks crocodile".

The section also included, for some reason, a warning not to modify this template without discussing it on a talkpage about astronomical objects, and what seems to be the introduction to a lesson plan for teaching sixth graders about textiles. I have deleted those as well, as they have nothing to do with herbivores.

@Rsk6400: I found an unused video of a giraffe eating tree leaves. It is okay with you if we used that one instead?--NadirAli (talk) 07:12, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have no problem with any change that improves the quality of the article, so just insert it, either I will be happy with it or I will voice my opinion. --Rsk6400 (talk) 08:10, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
