Spanish names[change source]

  • The practice of Spanish names is that the father's surname takes precedence over the mother's surname whatever the sex of the individual concerned. No elegant variations, please. It is Joan Sainz or Joan Sainz Garcia, and not any other form. Having introduced her with the full name, it would be normal to use the shorter form for the rest of the article. Exceptions to this may occur if the father's surname is very common. Varying between the two in an article may suggest the editor is not familiar with the language.
