I think we can take out ref #1. However, its key sentence is: "Local species diversity is directly related to the efficiency with which predators prevent the monopolization of the major environmental requisites by one species". I agree, we probably should remove it. I saw Paine's quote too, but I didn't see it as sufficiently verifying the statement. It's also unnecessary as the second citation does verify the statement. Rus793 (talk) 16:42, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
