Grammar note[change source]
You can say "release the fluoride ion" or "release fluoride ions". Both are correct grammar. In the first case 'fluoride ion' is used in a generic sense, which is signalled by the definite article 'the'. Macdonald-ross (talk) 08:21, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
