Template:Coord unknown/doc

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This template is used to tag articles that satisfy the following three criteria:

  1. The subject is non-fictional.
  2. It is associated with a fixed location on Earth.
  3. The article lacks geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) because the subject's location is disputed or unknown.

Evidence that the subject's location is disputed or unknown might include:

  • a reliable source says the subject's location is unknown, AND no reliable source gives a specific location for it, or
  • reliable sources provide two or more contradictory locations.

If further research seems likely to uncover definite coordinates, do not apply this template; use {{Coord missing}} instead.

If the subject's location is known approximately, it may still be better to provide rough coordinates using {{Coord}} than to apply this template.

{{Coord unknown|countryname}}

Parameters

[change source]
countryname:
should be one of the country names used in the subcategories of Category:Articles missing geocoordinate data by country. Where a particular country cannot be identified, one of the continent names used in the subcategories of Category:Articles missing geocoordinate data by continent should be used instead.
Note: this parameter is for future use. The template doesn't yet subcategorize articles by country or continent but may begin doing so later.
