University of Montpellier

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The University of Montpellier is a French public research university in Montpellier, south-east France. Founded in 1289, it is one of the oldest universities in the world.[1]

For 45 years from 1970 to 2015, the university was divided into three universities (University of Montpellier 1, University of Montpellier 2 and Paul Valéry University of Montpellier 3).[2] In 2015, a new University of Montpellier was created from the first two universities. However, the Paul Valéry University of Montpellier remained a separate entity.[3]
