Yair Lapid is an Israeli politician and journalist who became prime minister in 2022. He served as the alternate prime minister of Israel of foreign affairs from 2021 to 2022. Lapid is The chairman of the Yesh Atid party. He was the leader of the opposition from 2020 to 2021 and the minister of finance from 2013 to 2014.
Lapid was an author, TV presenter, and news anchor before he became a politician in 2012. Yesh Atid, the centrist party he founded, became the second-largest party in the Knesset by winning 19 seats in its first legislative election in 2013. The greater than anticipated results helped Lapid's reputation as a leading centrist.
From 2013 to 2014, Lapid served as a minister of finance under prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He was recognized as one of the leading foreign policy global thinkers in 2013 and ranked as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world.
on June 2021 Lapid told the Israeli president that he agreed to rotate the goverment with Naftali Bennett and was prepared to replace the prime minister, Netanyahu.
Lapid became prime minister of Israel on July 1 2022 after Bennet stepped down.
