From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When Google first gave me direction to Wikipedia in late June 2004, I was very please with how it all connected together! I was looking for knowledge on spelling reforms (changes in how to write words) and made discovery that Ogden's Basic English seemed very promising. To see it in use in the Simple English domain (field of knowledge) was very surprising.

I must state a tendency in the direction of Linguistic Imperialism. I am a Canadian with English as my mother language. Even though I have a full ten years of education in the French language, my power to read and write in French is poor. The male and female changes to French (how can a table have a sex?!) and the word sounds that do not equal the word writing seem very foolish.

Because it takes tens of years to learn another language, I have a belief that it is necessary to have one simple general language that everyone can learn easily. Since English has a clear lead, we have to meet the rest of the world in the middle and put right the serious wrongs in the language:

  1. There are too many words in the word list;
    1. There are too many different words that have the same meaning;
    2. There are words that have too many different meanings; and,
    3. Words that sound the same with different word writing and different meanings seems very foolish.
  2. English word writing does not sound the same as the writing.
  3. Many people sound the word writing differently in other places on the Earth. This is difficult for new English learners.
  4. Many words and word groups are idiomatic (the sense of words are not clear from their roots) and very difficult for new English learners.

I am not able to change the English language by myself. The Simple English domain (field of knowledge) in Wikipedia seems like a very good starting point.

As a Naval Engineering Officer in the Canadian Navy (A person in military authority for machines and people in a ship in Canada's seaforce), my interest in adding to Wikipedia writing will probably be military and human rights (United Nations laws and others).
