Princess Mafalda of Savoy (19 November 1902 – 27 August 1944) was the second child of King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy and Queen Elena.

Princess Mafalda was born in Rome, Italy, on 19 November 1902. Her father was the King of Italy, Victor Emmanuel III, and her mother was the Queen of Italy, Elena of Montenegro. Mafalda would grow up with one brother and three sisters.[1]

Marriage[change | change source]

In the Racconigi Castle on 23 September 1925, Mafalda married Prince Philipp of Hesse.[1] The couple would have four children:

  1. Prince Moritz (6 August 1926 – 23 May 2013)
  2. Prince Heinrich (30 Oct 1927 – 18 November 1999)
  3. Prince Otto (3 June 1937 – 3 January 1998)
  4. Princess Elisabeth (born 8 October 1940)
