User:Yottie/Requirements for good articles

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are many articles on Simple English Wikipedia. Some of them are better than others. To mark articles that are of high quality, there is a template. This template is called {{good}}. It can be added to articles that meet the requirements listed below, and that the community has agreed are good. On other Wikipedia projects, such articles are also called good articles.

Requirements for good articles[change | change source]

  1. The article must be written in Simple English.
  2. The article must talk about most of the important information on the subject.
  3. The article must be encyclopaedic. It must be in the right category, have few or no red links, have good references and have pictures is possible.

How to make an article good[change | change source]

To be able to mark a certain article as good, there is a certain process that editors should follow.

  1. If an editors wants to suggest an article for Good Article status, they should list it on the Article review page to let other editors give suggestions on how to make it better.
  2. When the editor who posted the page on Article review has fixed all the problems, they can post it on the Proposed Good Articles page.
  3. When the article meets the three requirements above, editors can decide if it is a Good Article. A vote lasts for one week. Any named editor can vote. At least 70% of named editors must agree that the article is good. At least 5 named editors need to vote.
  4. If the voting is successful, an Administrator closes the discussion. They replace the {{good}} template with {{pgood}} on the article's main page. If the closing Administrator feels there are still problems with the article, they can send the article back to Article review.

Making large changes to good articles[change | change source]

The process of becoming a good article is long. This means that larger changes (other than spellchecking/link-fixing) to existing good articles need to be talked about on the talk page of the article before they are made.

Demoting good articles[change | change source]

Sometimes a good article no longer meets the requirements above. For example, this may be because it is missing new information. In such a case, the article should be demoted from good article status. Demotion of a GA can be done in this way:

  1. A named editor notices that the article no longer meets the criteria.
  2. The editor places the article on Wikipedia:Proposed article demotion. They add a special template that shows that the article needs to be reviewed and improved.
  3. For two weeks after the discovery, the article can be fixed to meet the criteria. If there is agreement that the problem has been fixed during this time, there does not need to be another vote; an Administrator can remove the tag from the article, and put the "good" tag back.
  4. If the problem is not fixed, the article will lose its Good Article status after the two week period. An Administrator will remove the "good" tag from the article. When the article once again meets the criteria, an editor can nominate it for GA status again. It will then follow the full promotion process from beginning to end once again.
