Article: Chess[change source]

The article Chess needs a few more sections about Notation, Pawn Promotion, Opening, Middlegame, Endgame, and History. Then its ready for GA approval. Please help with the sections. Thanks, Ian ♠♣♦♥ McCarty 17:01, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and refs too. Ian ♠♣♦♥ McCarty 16:18, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sections are done! All that's left is adding more refs and turning red links to blue. Ian ♠♣♦♥ McCarty 15:42, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sourcing[change source]

If we need to do some more sourcing, especially on some of the chess history stuff, I have a fairly big collection of chess books. Kansan (talk) 05:07, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's great! I don't have any chess books, & I can't find any either, because there aren't any libraries in Korea, and even to buy English books I have to travel two hours. :( It'd be great if you could cite them. Classical Esther 05:12, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Middlegame[change source]

Reviewing progress on the main Chess page, I see it strongest on the rules, and weakest on the actual chess (!). Although we don't set out to do a 'how to play' thing, we must explain what is going on in a game. The section on the Opening gives a fair account. So I identify the Middlegame section as at present weak to non-existent. We should have a decent section on that, plus a main page on the topic. Since enWP is also weak here, I'll have to put something up myself. We'll see how it goes. Macdonald-ross (talk) 15:27, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While ideally an article on chess strategy would be good, making such a topic encyclopedic may prove more difficult. Perhaps, for now, a good starting point would be an article titled Chess tactics in which major tactical devices such as the fork, pin, etc. can be explained and illustrated. Kansan (talk) 15:52, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's a good idea in any event. Macdonald-ross (talk) 16:07, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
