The Ususal[change source]

Hi Ferien. Thanks for dealing with the user, I'm still getting pestered by them over various wikis here. I'd report them there, but only pseudo-registered users can respond to vandals on that wiki. (which I'm not). Is there any way to stop this IP throughout the wikis? I'm just ignoring them for now, but I have received 20 alerts from them in my inbox from interwiki comments and get notices for it in the regular wiki. Is there any solution? Andrzejbanas (talk) 21:51, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Andrzejbanas, IPs are sometimes blocked for cross-wiki abuse, which I suppose this could count as, messaging you on loads of different wikis when it's unwanted. You could make a report on m:SRG (where you can request global locks and blocks). --Ferien (talk) 22:18, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll check it out. Andrzejbanas (talk) 22:21, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unable to convert[change source]

The bare URLs of book websites can be converted through automatic process. But those of news and magazine websites can't. Few months ago, I can automatically convert any form of websites but nowadays, I can't. I don't know if the problem is only mine or also for others. Could you please have a trial at the page Phouoibi? Regards! Haoreima (talk) 03:25, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Haoreima, I also seem to be having some problems creating references on other pages too, for websites I used to be able to create references with. --Ferien (talk) 13:03, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please specify the problem? Do you mean on news, magazines like websites like {{Cite web|url=...}}? Do you also have problem with {{Cite book|url=...}}? Haoreima (talk) 13:07, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have not created many references in visual editor but when I do they're always websites, particularly news websites. For example, just now I failed to do this and this automatically. --Ferien (talk) 13:09, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In Wikipedia:Simple Talk#Unable to convert, Castilibrary2 says he could convert anything in en wiki, but not for web in simple. Well, today, I learned how to do manually. Though manual takes more labour, I have to do that until Simple wiki technicians fixed it. A few months ago, everything could be done! But nowadays, things aren't like before! Idk why? My last doubt is to whom shall I complain? It's really wasting our time, in converting manually. I add a lot of citations everyday, I feel really bad. How we will see unregistered users[change source]

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

important note[change source]

Hello dear. I would like to point out one very important thing. This article (Jack Ninte) is for a person who is trying to promote himself and does not achieve sufficient noticeability or fame, and has written about himself on English, Arabic, Spanish, French, Hebrew and Egyptian Wikipedia, and his articles have been deleted and his accounts are banned because he creates sock puppet accounts. When I nominate an article for deletion, he (IP) removes the filter template and threatens me with ban! This is completely against Wikipedia's policy.

I hope you delete the article.

My greetings --Osps7 (talk) 17:42, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Osps7, could you tell me which article? --Ferien (talk) 17:43, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh sorry I see you've added it now. Sorry. Let me check. --Ferien (talk) 17:44, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see Eptalon has now deleted it, but personally I had an issue with the RfD because Macdonald-ross quickly deleted it for no valid reason (the article was not unambiguous advertising as suggested and it was on a person, so G11 doesn't apply) and there was no unanimous !vote or anything like that, so I feel like an RfD would have done the job. Of course, WP:IAR and everything, but I disagreed. And unless there has been a proper RfD, G4 doesn't actually apply. --Ferien (talk) 17:51, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

QD of Cri du chat syndrome[change source]

Hello Ferien. I wanted to ask if you would be kind enough to restore the article Cri du chat syndrome back to its place, or permit me to recreate the article properly please? I know this is a real illness and I am happy to find a way to make it into a proper article, written in a way that's easy for users here to understand. Thank you. DaneGeld (talk) 20:59, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DaneGeld, I'm not sure whether that'd be helpful (because the article content was just as shown in the log) but if you want I can restore it into your user space, and of course you are certainly allowed to recreate the article properly. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 21:19, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And I see Eptalon has recreated it now. --Ferien (talk) 21:20, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[change source]

Hello, would you mind doing a history split at Emma Chamberlain . The first two revisions are irrelevant. Cheers --Synoman Barris (talk) 18:28, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Synoman Barris, I deleted then restored the page without the first two revisions, which I think is what you wanted me to do. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 19:53, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

FerienBot[change source]

Hi, Ferien. Will FerienBot fix the kind of error that I fixed here, where there is punctuation both before and after a reference? --Auntof6 (talk) 19:45, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Auntof6. No, FerienBot won't automatically fix those kinds of errors. I don't think WPCleaner supports that right now. All the ones that the bot couldn't fix are presented to me at the end though so they can be fixed manually afterwards. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 19:49, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. I was just looking at the CheckWikipedia list for error 61 and noticed this, which made me wonder. -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:53, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, WPCleaner did present to me the other errors afterwards, I just didn't end up getting round to it. Sorry about that. --Ferien (talk) 19:55, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No apology needed! The bot will save us a lot of work, I'm sure. I did just clean up the half dozen or so I saw on the CheckWikipedia list. -- Auntof6 (talk) 20:20, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
