Tokyo categories
[change source]Me and Hian have been discussing on Discord. The naming of the Tokyo categories are inconsistent:
- Three name it "Tokyo Prefecture"
- 11 name it just "Tokyo"
- Category:Railway stations in Tokyo
- Category:Wards of Tokyo
- Category:People from Tokyo
- Category:Actors from Tokyo
- Category:Musicians from Tokyo
- Category:Sportspeople from Tokyo
- Category:History of Tokyo
- Category:Museums in Tokyo
- Category:20th century in Tokyo
- Category:Tokyo
- Category:Buildings and structures in Tokyo
Since we don't have much local rules on categories, we'll follow enwiki per WP:FOLLOW. Enwiki's geographical categories are usually the current geographical units, but Tokyo Prefecture has not existed since 1943.
Another issue is that while enwiki has one unified Tokyo article covering both Tokyo (the 23 wards that were a city until 1943) and Tokyo Metropolis (one of 47 prefectures), simplewiki has two separate articles for them.
@Hiàn: Your idea was to get rid of Category:Tokyo Prefecture and rename Category:Settlements in Tokyo Prefecture and Category:Footballers from Tokyo Prefecture. I'm thinking we should rename all three to "Tokyo Metropolis" in line with enwiki tendency to categorize by current geographical units and make the first one the eponymous category of Tokyo Metropolis. - A lot to look at here. I'm in favour of merging Tokyo and Tokyo Metropolis together to match what enwiki does, and move the categories to follow suit. I note that enwiki does have two separate categories for Tokyo Metropolis and Tokyo in some instances (footballers, for example), but I think that's more how Tokyo is actually defined (i.e. special wards only versus the metropolis proper). If we keep the status quo (which I'm open to), then figuring out how we should define what is Tokyo and what is the rest of the metropolis is something we have to do. - The footballers one would follow based on what it was called at the time of the players birth. So it would still be valid for any players born while it was Tokyo Prefecture. -Djsasso (talk) 16:49, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
Ryukyu project
[change source]There is also a WikiProject about Ryukyu, which is part of Japan. If you want to write new articles, you could write some of the articles listed there. — Lights and freedom (talk) 18:49, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks for pointing that out. This WikiProject covers all areas and subjects of Japan , I am guessing that one covers a more specific area. Thanks for the heads up! --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 20:40, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
Japanese flag is not showing correctly
[change source]In the top left, where the Japanese flag appears, it is being obscured by the sidebar which show the tools (emailing a user, the main page link etc.) SidChat2048 (talk and contributions) 08:21, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
