I have suggestion for a stat. I'm not sure if it's possible though. I would be interested in seeing how quickly we are expanding. I'm thinking x=time, y=total number of articles in SE. If we could get an equation for the function, that would be cool too so that we could extrapolate when we might reach 25,000 articles, 50,000 articles, etc. · Tygrrr·talk· 16:33, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, generally I can say it is not impossible to gather such data. However, we need to start with some definitions. For example, if I plot the data now, I will get information about the articles which are not deleted at the moment, and this can be (minorly) different from what I will get six months later. Anyways, I'll try to find the best way to make such a plot; I will also try to use the statistics to produce a regression model (preferably a linear model) to be used for extrapolation. I'm not sure how fast I can do this (because I need to run some tests to make sure my query is not going to kill the server :p) but possibly I will make the plot by tomorrow. - Huji reply 18:38, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I finally collected the required data. Results will appear on User:Huji/Stats/Expansion shortly. - Huji reply 19:47, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent! You sure do work fast. :-) · Tygrrr·talk· 03:04, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed your request here motivated me to do some more research and try to generate more stats, which finally lead me to find a bug in MySQL and report it! - Huji reply 14:29, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
