Warnings and Talk pages[change source]
When warning someone about vandalism, always try to remember to substitute the warning templates ({{subst:vandalism|that page}}). Also don't forget to sign your posts ( ~~~~ ) as this not only tells who warned the person, but most importantly when the warning was given. -- Creol(talk) 00:35, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- Alright, well thank you for the info. --Loki 02:27, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Copying over articles[change source]
Hello Loki, and welcome to SimpleWP. Regarding the comment made on my talk page (directly copying articles from en, or other Wikipedias), let me explain myself. Just that we agree: The simple in simple wp stands for the language, that is supposedly easier to understand. This simplification is done by using a somewhat restricted vocabulary. It may also be because shorter and clearer sentences are used.
There are different ways to get simple articles,
- Write from scratch. Perhaps translating or simplifying another work.
- Copy over the original article. Then simplify it, until it is at a level, where it is understandable.
As you have seen many times, I tend to prefer the second-listed approach. I copy over the article. Then I go through many iterations to get it to a level of simplicity that is adequate for here.
Mathematics is there to help. It gives a formalism (a language) that needs little translation. Of course, some concepts of it may look like magic, and take a while to grasp, even if they are put in simple words.
Please note again that the Simple in our project name only means the language used. And rest assured, I will simplify those articles myself.
All the best --Eptalon 22:20, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Year categories[change source]
Hi Loki and welcome! I noticed some work you've been doing to years. When you put a year into a category, it should go only in to the most specific category. For example, the year 1204 should only go in the Category:1204, not Category:1200s. The reason for this is that the Category:1204 is already in the Category:1200s and it causes it to be repeated. Please try to make sure you are putting them in the right category in the future. If I can help you out with anything else, please let me know. Thanks and happy editing! Your account will be renamed[change source]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Loki. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Loki~simplewiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name. If you think you might own all of the accounts with this name and this message is in error, please visit Special:MergeAccount to check and attach all of your accounts to prevent them from being renamed.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
